Hello! Welcome to What You Don’t Know YET!, a podcast for teachers in the early years of their career. Our first episode is up and we hope you find something helpful in there! You can listen and subscribe HERE.

Here’s a peek at our “lesson plan” for Episode 1 and a few notes that might help you.
Objective: We want you to be able to feel comfortable with the mistakes you will inevitably make in the early part of your career.
Do Now: What are some of the most memorable events of your first year of teaching?
Lesson: Margaret and Glenetta share some of the great and not so great moments of their first year and then give some advice about how to handle the mistakes of the first year.
Homework: Ask a few other teachers what they remember about their first year. Share the good, the bad, and the ugly. Hopefully this helps you see that the first year isn’t perfect for anyone. And maybe this conversation helps you to know that it gets better because you’re going to learn something from all those mistakes you will make in your first year.
Notes: Margaret mentioned using Louisiana Believes and EngageNY as a source for lesson plans. Those states have posted their curriculum online to benefit all teachers. It’s a great place to find sample lesson plans and assessments. Use them! Everything is free!
And hey, we’re trying to figure out how much to cuss in this podcast. We said “sh*t” in this episode and realized we have never heard anyone cuss in an educational podcast. Was that offensive? unprofessional? Or was it the authentic way many teachers talk? So go on over to Twitter @wydky_pod and tell us if we’re professionals or potty mouths.
